Women's Basketball Fall Short Against Tusculum

Box Score
CHARLESTON, W.Va. - The University of Charleston women's basketball team shot under 40 percent from the floor for the first time this season as they couldn't keep pace with Tusculum in a 85-61 decision to close the Rollins Thanksgiving Tournament, Saturday afternoon.

A day after defeating No. 4 ranked Rollins the Pioneers continued to roll as they sank the first shot of the day for three points and never looked back. Charleston fell behind 10 points after five minutes of play, but battled back to an 18-18 deadlock after Nichole Perry (Poseyville, IN) buried a shot from behind the arc with 8:46 remaining in the opening stanza.

Tusculum went on a 12-to-2 run in closing the first half to hold a 42-30 advantage going into the locker room.

UC put together a valiant comeback effort, but was unable to overcome the Pioneers 54 percent shooting effort in the final 20 minutes of play. Tusculum held a double-digit advantage for much of the second half as the Golden Eagles did little to help their own efforts as the Pioneers converted Charleston turnovers into 16 points down the stretch.  The smaller UC lineup also gave way to a 22-8 advantage in points in the paint for the half.

The University of Charleston hit 20-of-53 attempts from the floor with Perry leading the offense with 19 points. LeAnne Ross (Marietta, OH) was the only other Golden Eagle in double-digits as she booked 10 points.

Charleston makes the long trip back from Winter Park, Fla. for a week of rest before heading off to Shepherdstown, W.Va. for a Dec. 1 contest against conference opponent Shepherd at 2:00 pm.
