Alfano, a 1971 Morris Harvey graduate, was inducted into the Golden Eagle Sports Hall of Fame in 1995.
During her time at Morris Harvey she led the basketball team as captain for two years and claimed the title of Metro Conference Tournament Champs.
Alfano went on to be the head coach at Virginia Tech, (1979-97). She was the all-time winningest coach at Virginia Tech as of the ’95 season. Alfano was also head coach at Pasadena City College and the director of basketball operations for Cal.-Berkeley, (’00-’01). As a coach, Alfano earned numerous awards including Metro Conference Coach of the Year and Converse Coach of the Year.
