Roy was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1990. During his time at the University of Charleston he was on the baseball and football team.

In football, he made All Conference twice, played in Tangerine Bow and Burley Bowl Football. He was also the Conference Leader in Pass Receptions twice.

In baseball, he made All Conference 3 times.
