Carr was inducted into the Golden Eagle Sports Hall of Fame in 2004. While attending Morris Harvey College he played and lettered in three sports  as a Golden Eagle football, baseball and basketball. 

In football, Carr was named WVIAC All-Conference after his 1946 and '47 seasons and won a WVIAC Championship during the 1942 season.

Carr played two seasons as a Golden Eagle in the sport of baseball, 1947 & '48, posting .490 batting average and was aided in getting a contract with the Boston Red Sox by Ted Williams.
