Women's Soccer Wins Sixth Straight, 4-1 Over UPJ

CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Freshman Kimberly D'Angelo (Lindenhurst, NY/Lindenhurst) added her fifth and sixth goals of the year, while also recording an assist as she led the UC women's soccer team past Pitt-Johnstown 4-1, Saturday afternoon.

The win is the sixth-straight for the Golden Eagles (8-3, 6-1) and pulls the team within one-point of conference leading WV Wesleyan (7-3-2, 6-0-1).

Junior Leann McKay (Scott Depot, W.Va./Winfield) got the game started right for Charleston as she found the back of the net just 11:50 into the match as D'Angelo set her up for a wide open shot on goal.

D'Angelo then took over the scoring for UC as she closed the first-half scoring with unassisted goals in the 30th and 39th minutes giving the Golden Eagles a 3-0 lead at the break.

UPJ found the net at the 56:12 mark to get on the board, but Charleston did not hesitate to put the game away as sophomore Elyse Surbaugh (Virginia Beach, Va./Ocean Lakes) responded with the clinching goal less than ten second later (56:21) to set the score at 4-1.

UC outshot Pitt-Johnstown 17-6 as goal keepers Kendra Ness (Red Lion, Pa./Wilmington) and Catherine Perry (Hampton, Va./Kecoughtan) split time to record four saves on the afternoon.

Charleston looks to stay hot as they return to the field on Wednesday, October 13 for a 3:30pm non-conference matchup against Mountain State at Schoenbaum Field.
