CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Lindsey Kentner tossed in 23 points and handed out six assists as the University of Charleston defeated Bluefield State in a season and West Virginia Conference women's basketball opener at Eddie King Gym.
"I thought we played real aggressive and that's what I wanted to do," said coach Sherry Winn. "We talked a lot about changing our mentality, being more aggressive and putting more pressure on the ball, and I think we did that.
"I thought we moved the ball well offensively and I thought we had a lot of people on offense who were looking to score. There were a lot of good things for us."
Also for the Golden Eagles, Ali Tobias canned four 3-pointers and scored 15 points, Tiana Beatty had 12 points and Tarena Dixon 11. Moneka Slaughter grabbed eight rebounds to lead UC to a 48-29 edge off the boards.
For the Big Blues (0-1, 0-1), Charlene Diggs scored 12 points.
In the win, Kentner's 23 points brings her career scoring total to 993 points as she will look to eclipse the 1,000 point mark this Friday when the team returns to action at Northern Kentucky for a 5:30 pm tip-off.
