WHEELING, W.Va. - The University of Charleston women's soccer team picked up its first win of the 2010 season as they defeated WVIAC foe Wheeling Jesuit 3-2, Saturday afternoon.
The Golden eagles controled the majority of possession en route to taking a 2-0 lead into halftime. Freshman #Kimberly D’Angelo# (Lindenhurst, NY/Lindenhurst) scored her first collegiate goal as she received the ball with her back to goal and finished inside the six. D'Angelo added her second goal at the 26:09 mark when she received a ball from the right flank and beat the right defender.
Wheeling would tie the game in the second half as Kara Houston finished a penalty shot, while Hannah Walker beat UC’s keeper one-on-one at the 76:46 mark of the contest to set the score at 2-2 after regulation.
One minute and forty one seconds into the first overtime, senior Fallon Nicholas (Sacramento, Calif./American River College) hit a 25-yard screamer near post from the right side past the WJU keeper.
The Golden eagles are scheduled to play Davis & Elkins on Wednesday at 3:30pm at Schoenbaum Stadium.
