Box Score

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Senior Fallon Nicholas (Sacramento, Calif./American River College) was a one woman wrecking crew against visiting Davis & Elkins scoring two goals, while adding an assist as the University of Charleston women’s soccer team picked up a 3-0 victory, Wednesday afternoon.

Nicholas hammered her first goal of the contest past Senator goalkeeper Brenna Tillman at the 30 minute mark of the first half. Nicholas found herself one-on-one from the right side of the goal after corralling a long cross that came from just inside the midfield stripe before driving a strike to the upper corner of the goal.

The offensive push from Charleston continued as Nicholas setup teammate Courtney Cole (White Sulfer Springs, W.Va./WV Wesleyan) with a picture perfect pass to the front of the box. Cole handled the pass with easy to slip the ball into the back of the net for a 2-0 advantage.

The University of Charleston attack never faltered as throughout the lineup precision passing was the key as the team controlled possession into the second half to setup the final goal.

Nicholas broke free from the D&E defense in the 64th minute to again find herself one-on-one against Tillman, which again ended with a Golden Eagle score as Nicholas blasted the ball off the chest of Tillman into the net setting the final score at 3-0.

Catherine Perry (Hampton, Va./Kecoughtan) and Kendra Ness (Red Lion, Pa./Wilmington) each played a half in goal for UC with Perry picking up the win, yet Ness recorded two saves in the contest.

Charleston outshot Davis & Elkins 11-7 on the afternoon, while UC had six shots on goal to the Senators three.

The Golden Eagles return to action at Schoenbaum Stadium Saturday, September 18 at 7:00pm against conference opponent WV Wesleyan.
