GREENSBURG, Pa. - The University of Charleston tallied five goals on the afternoon en route to a 5-3 win over conference opponent Seton Hill, Saturday in Greensburg, Pa.
UC scored in the first five minutes of the match when Fallon Nicholas played a ball to sophomore Elyse Surbaugh. Elyse turned hit a bomb into the left upper 90 from 25 yards out. UC’s Fallon Nicholas would score the Golden Eagles second goal as a loose ball slipped through the Griffin defense and Nicholas buried the ball in the far post side netting. The first half scoring would conclude when SHU sophomore Mackeisha Taylor followed up a Griffin corner kick as is fell from UC keeper Kendra Ness’ hands.
Scoring would go back and forth throughout the second half. The Griffins were awarded a free kick from the center circle. A well driven ball was served into the eighteen where Mackeisha Taylor received and finished her chance. Less than three minutes later, Nicholas again found Surbaugh again for another shot from the eighteen to make the score 3-2 UC. Two minutes later, SHU Madison Gourley finished a brilliant header off of a Griffin corner to tie the game 3-3.
The Golden Eagles finished the games scoring in the final 15 minutes of the match. Freshman Kimberly D’Angelo slipped fellow freshman Brittany Loveland through inside the six for the game winner. Brittany Loveland would return the favor to junior Courtney Cole for UC’s fifth goal of the match. Loveland beat the outside back to the end line and served the ball inside the eighteen to Cole. Cole would score on a diving header.
The Golden Eagles improve their record to 4-3 and 3-1 in the conference. UC is scheduled to play Ohio Valley on Wednesday.
