VIENNA, W.Va. – Five players recorded goals as the University of Charleston women’s soccer team powered past conference opponent Ohio Valley 6-0, Wednesday afternoon.
Junior Samatha Smith (Manassa, VA / Osbourne Park) started the scoring off just before halftime for the Golden Eagles (5-3, 4-1) as she found the back-of-the-net unassisted in the 43 minute for her first points of the season.
UC goalkeeper Kendra Ness (Red Lion, PA / Wilmington College) faced the only three shots OVU managed for the contest as she recorded one save in picking up her fourth win of the season. Charleston outshot the Fighting Scots 14-3 in the first half and 31-3 for the contest.
After the break the University of Charleston wasted little time in sealing the contest as the leading freshman duo of Brittany Loveland (Cheswick, PA / Springdale) and #Kimberly D’Angelo# (Lindenhurst, NY / Lindenhurst) placed the ball past Ohio Valley keeper Abbi Menear just three minutes apart (53rd & 56th minute) for the 3-0 lead. Classmate Raquel Hill-Spranger (Tampa, FL / Robinson) netted her first goal of the season at 69:16 off an assist from senior Fallon Nicholas (Sacramento, CA / American River College) to increase the Golden Eagle advantage to 4-0.
Junior Sabrina Mullaney (Dundalk, MD / Institute of Notre Dame) provided the parting shots for Charleston as she netted the final two goals of the contest in the 73rd and 86th minutes. Hill-Spranger recorded an assist on the first Mullaney goal, while regular goalkeeper Catherine Perry (Hampton, VA / Kecoughtan) managed to put a point in the stat box with an assist on the second goal.
Charleston gets break from conference play as they return to the field Saturday, Oct. 2 for an 8:00pm matchup against NAIA Rio Grande at Schoenbaum Stadium.
