Kentner Lifts Women's Basketball Past WV State

Box Score

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -
Lindsey Kentner scored 22 points as the University of Charleston women's basketball team defeated West Virginia State 75-63 Wednesday in Institute.

The Golden Eagles broke a 34-all tie with 2:09 left in the first half when Tarena Dixon hit a pair of free throws, giving UC the lead for good. Kentner made a layup with 18 seconds left in the half to give UC a four-point lead at the break.

The Yellow Jackets had the lead cut to three points with 9:11 left in the game, but Charleston closed it out by outscoring State 22-13.

"I think we did what we needed to do win tonight," said UC coach Sherry Winn. "Whenever we get a win at State, it's great for us, because it's an intense rivalry and they always play us tough, especially at their place.

"[State] killed us on the rebounds, which I'm not happy about. But the most important thing is that we won. We got down by 12 in the first half, but we had a great run and came back. I think Lindsey [Kentner] had a phenomenal game altogether for us."

Ali Tobias added 16 points for the Golden Eagles (12-5, 8-3). Tarena Dixon pulled down 11 rebounds for UC.

Chelsey Davis led the Yellow Jackets (6-11, 4-7) with 20 points. Melissa Ford and Janelle Williams each pulled down 12 rebounds for State.
