UC vs OVU Highlight Video
CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Senior Tiana Beatty (Charleston, W.Va./Capital) paved the way with 24 points and five steals for the University of Charleston women’s basketball team as the Golden Eagles easily dispatched Ohio Valley 91-67, Saturday evening.
The Fighting Scots (9-5, 5-6) controlled the opening tipoff and looked to be setting the tone for a West Virginia Conference upset as they controlled the first eight minutes of the contest. OVU led by as much as eight points before the perilous Golden Eagle (13-5, 9-3) offense found its rhythm. Senior Ali Tobias (Painesville, Ohio/Riverside) hit a clutch three-pointer at the 11:59 mark to give UC its first lead of the game at 17-16.
Charleston caught fire from the floor over the final 10 minutes of the first half to hit 19-of-37 shots for a sizzling 51 percent average, while pulling away to a 20 point advantage (55-35) headed into the break. The second half saw the University of Charleston control the tempo with the comfortable lead as 12 players saw action for UC. Ohio Valley was never able to make headway into the Charleston lead as the Fighting Scots only shot 31 percent in the second half compared to 48 percent for the Golden Eagles leading to the 91-67 final score.
Beatty’s 24 points tied a career-high in leading all scorers on the evening, while classmate Tarena Dixon (Morgantown, W.Va./University) followed close behind with a 20 point and seven rebound effort. Leading scorer Lindsey Kentner (Wapakoneta, Ohio/Wapakoneta) went 4-for-4 from the charity stripe hitting all four shots due to two separate Ohio Valley technical fouls. Kentner tallied 17 points, six rebounds, five assists and four steals in the game.
The Golden Eagles get no down time as they travel to WVIAC opponent Bluefield State for a 5:30 pm contest on Monday, January 24.
