CHARLESTON, W.Va. –
Senior Lindsey Kentner (Wapakoneta, Ohio/Wapakoneta) continued her march thru the University of Charleston women’s basketball record books by shooting 11-of-17 from the floor to net a career-high 29 points in an 89-72 victory over conference opponent Shepherd, Thursday night.

Charleston (15-5, 11-3) shot off the opening tip on a shooting hot streak pulling out to a 10 point advantage in the first four minutes of the contest. The Rams (10-7, 8-5) looked to their bench in order to stay within reach of the Golden Eagles and the tactic proved to be the spark needed. The Shepherd bench would ignite to provide a 20 point lift as they would use a 19-to-8 scoring run to retake the lead seven minutes before halftime.

Senior Tarenna Dixon (Morgantown, W.Va./University) and freshman Erika Rousculp (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) took control of the final six minutes before the break with a strong presence in the paint to help the University of Charleston regain a comfortable seven point advantage going into halftime. UC outscored Shepherd 22-16 in the paint in the first half, while outshooting the Rams 58 percent to 45 percent from the floor.

The second half saw Charleston lock in control of the game as they immediately took a double-digit lead and would never surrender it. SU shot 2-of-10 from behind the arc in its frantic attempt to make a comeback, yet UC managed to hit 4-of-8 shots from three-point range itself and go 10-for-15 from the free throw line in securing the 89-72 win.

All five Charleston starters scored in double figures as Kentner led all scorers in the game and also was the game leader with six assists.  She also took over tenth place in the all-time scoring record book for UC with 1,363 career points.

Tiana Beatty (Charleston, W.Va./Capitol) followed with 15 points and eight rebounds, while Dixon and classmate Ali Tobias (Painesville, Ohio/Riverside) accounted for 14 points, each. Rousculp highlighted the evening with her first career double-double with 10 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks.

Jerica Hewett paved the way for Shepherd with 18 points and five assists.

The University of Charleston’s win streak now stands at six games as they await Pitt-Johnstown for a 6:00 pm contest on Saturday, January 29.
