Women's Tennis Continues Winning Ways


CHARLESTON, W. Va. – The University of Charleston held off West Liberty 5-4 in a tough West Virginia Conference women’s tennis match, Tuesday afternoon.

The Hilltoppers took a 1-0 lead after Lauren Howard and Raissa Wischi won the No . 1 doubles spot 8-3. However, the Golden Eagles took a 2-1 match lead by winning the next two doubles points.
Kelsey Hensley (Ashland, KY) and Sarah Monsheimer (Silver Spring, MD) won at No. 2 by an 8-4 score, while Mallika Mali (Brisbane, Australia) and Davina Holtfretter (Luetjensee, Germany) took the No. 3 spot by an 8-0 count.

WLU raced back in front, sweeping the top three singles matches. Howard won her match at No. 1 by a 6-0, 6-1 score. Emma Windsor pulled off a 6-3, 6-4 win at the No. 2 position while Wischi won at the No. 3 slot 6-4, 6-1.

UC registered the match win by winning the No. 4-6 singles spots, which it has continued to lean on throughout this season. Hensley won a three-set affair at the No. 4 position 6-2, 4-6, 6-2. Mali did not lose a game at the No. 5 position, while Holtferter cruised to a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 6.


The win puts the University of Charleston in position to seal up the WVIAC regular season title with two WVIAC matches remaining on Thursday, Oct. 14. UC will face Bluefield State at 11:00 am before catching Concord on the way home at 3:00 pm.
