Opening Minute Goal Sends Women's Soccer to Playoffs

Box Score

CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Courtney Cole (White Sulpher Springs, WV) found the net just over 50 seconds into play to send the University of Charleston into the WVIAC Tournament with a 1-0 win over visiting Ohio Valley, Thursday afternoon at Schoenbaum Stadium.

Charleston (5-9-2) needed the win to secure the final seed in the WVIAC Tournament and Cole delivered exactly what was needed out of the gate. The Golden Eagles controlled possession for much of the contest to make the narrow 1-0 margin hold up for the win.

UC outshot OVU 17-7 in the contest, yet it was the Fighting Scots Abbi Menear who recorded eight saves to keep her squad within striking distance. For Charleston, goalkeeper Catherine Perry booked four saves on the afternoon.

The Golden Eagles now will travel to face No. 3 seed Shepherd in the opening round on the WVIAC Tournament with start dates and times to be announced tomorrow afternoon. Charleston and Shepherd played just five days ago with the match ending in a 0-0 deadlock after two overtime periods.
