HAGERSTOWN, Md. - The University of Charleston women's soccer team set out to prove their record did not define their talent and did so in a powerful way as they upset No. 3 seed Shepherd 4-0 in WVIAC Tournament First Round action, Monday night.
The game originally scheduled for 2:00 pm today on the Shepherd University campus had to be rescheduled for a 7:30 pm start in at North Hagerstown High School due to wintery weather and field conditions. This extended the trip for the Golden Eagles who were already six hours from home giving them even more reason not to leave without putting it all on the line.
Charleston dominated the contest showing the 5-9-2 record they entered the tournament with was not a true reflection of their play this season. UC has had nine contests decided by just a single goal this season with two ties making go down to the wire in 11 of the teams 17 games.
Kimberly D'Angelo (Lindenhurst, NY) paced the Golden Eagles in the win with two goals and an assist, while teammates
Sabrina Mullaney (Dundalk, MD) and
Brittany Loveland (Cheswick, PA) each chipped in a score.
UC now heads to No. 2 seeded Alderson-Broaddus on Friday, Nov. 4 for a 2:00 pm semifinal matchup. The Battlers slipped past Charleston in regular season play 1-0 by scoring a goal with just 28 seconds remaining in the second overtime period.
