Women's Basketball Falls to Seton Hill

Box Score

GREENSBURG, Pa.
– An Anne Marie Olesky three pointer with 15 seconds remaining lifted Seton Hill past the University of Charleston women’s basketball team snapping an 11 game winning streak, Saturday evening.

Charleston (20-6, 16-4) held the Griffins (18-6, 14-6) to 7-of-32 shooting in the opening half, yet 11 turnovers only allowed the Golden Eagles to build a 26-21 lead at break.

SHU chipped away at the UC lead throughout the second half outshooting the top team in the WVIAC 46 percent to 40 percent in the closing half. The teams traded the lead seven times down the stretch to create an exciting finish to the contest. Senior Tiana Beatty (Charleston, W.Va./Capital) sank a shot from behind the arc with 32 clicks remaining in the game to hand the visitors a 57-56 advantage. Olesky proved to be up to the challenge as the hometown hero as she sank just her second shot of the evening to give the Griffins the two point advantage.

The Golden Eagles would get the final look at the basket as Beatty drove to the hoop, yet rushed against the clock falling just short as the go-ahead shot rimmed out to set the final score at 59-57.

UC was unable to overcome 20 turnovers in the contest, which allowed SHU to outscore Charleston 25-5 on points off turnovers.

Senior Tarenna Dixon (Morgantown, W.Va./Un iversity) provided the highlight of the evening for the University of Charleston as she booked her 11th double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Leading scorer Lindsey Kentner (Wapakoneta, Ohio/Wapakoneta) led Charleston with 15 points on 4-of-9 shooting, while going 4-for-4 at the charity stripe.

Charleston now is in a three-way battle with West Liberty and Glenville State for the top spot in the West Virginia Conference. UC gets back on the court as the team looks to avenge an early season loss against Concord on Wednesday, February 23 at 6:00pm in Eddie Kind Gym.
