Atlantic Regional Tournament Site
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The defending West Virginia Conference champion University of Charleston women's tennis team received a spot in the Atlantic Region of the NCAA Division II Championship to be hosted by California (Pa.) from May 2-3.
After accumulating an impressive 22-6 overall record with a 9-1 mark in WVIAC play Charleston was selected as the No. 5 seed in the Atlantic Region. In its fifth-straight regional appearance the Golden Eagles will face at-large selection Mercyhurt from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference. The Lakers enter the tournament for their second consecutive season with a 17-5 overall record.
The No. 13 ranked and top seeded hosts of the tournament are California (Pa.) who will host eight-ranked WVIAC member West Liberty in the first round.
On the other side of the Atlantic bracket, third-seeded and host institution Slippery Rock will face off against West Virginia State, while second-seeded Indiana (Pa.) hosts seventh-seeded West Virginia Wesleyan.
The winner of the Atlantic Region No. 1 site will advance to the Round of 16 at the NCAA National Championships in Altamonte Springs, Fla., from May 11-14. The Vulcans have advanced to the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Tournament three times in the last four seasons.
