Hot Start Continues for Women's Tennis

CHARLESTON, W.Va.
- The early season win streak for the University of Charleston women's tennis team was extended to three games as the Golden Eagles tallied its second consecutive conference sweep in a 9-0 win over Davis & Elkins, Sunday morning.

Marcela Torres got the action started in the closest match of the contest as she took the No. 1 singles by scores of 6-3, 6-4. Laura Smith who recorded a No. 1 singles win on Saturday sat out singles play to allow freshman Courtney Pierron to make her first collegiate appearance. Pierron took advantage of the opportunity with a nearly perfect effort in the No. 6 singles position winning 6-1, 6-0.

Charleston (3-0) excuted their game to near perfection as Mallika Mali and freshman Kelsey Hensley capped a great day of tennis with an 8-0 win in the No. 3 doubles position as UC ended the afternoon with a perfect 9-0 match score.

The Golden Eagles now prepare for an early season test against nemisis WV State on Tuesday, Sept. 13 on the road in Instiute at 3:00 pm.
