CHARLESTON, W.Va. - After a gruelling 110 minutes of play the top two teams in the WVIAC were unable to break a 1-1 deadlock in women's soccer action between the UC and WV Wesleyan, Saturday afternoon.
Freshman scoring leader Holly Bigg struck again to put the Golden Eagles on the scoreboard first with a mere two seconds remaining before halftime for her third goal of her rookie year. After regrouping during the break the WV Wesleyan offense came out on fire hammering nine shots against a strong UC defense, which forced Charleston goalkeeper Catherine Perry to make eight saves in game.
Perry's only flaw on the night came on a shot by Rachel Ritchey who was a continual scoring threat all afternoon as she took seven shots to lead the home team. Ritchey was able to beat the UC defense forcing Perry to come off her line in the 51st minute allowing Ritchey just enough space to find the net to tie the contest at 1-1.
Neither team was able to produce much of the threat to the goal in the two overtime periods as they combined for just three shots (One for UC & Two for WVWC) allowing the game to finish in a draw to keep both teams atop the WVIAC standings.
Next up for the women's team is a non-conference home contest against Malone on Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 4:00 pm.
