SHEPHERDSTOWN, W. Va. – Trailing 10-7 with 11:46 to play before halftime, Shepherd stepped up its game en route to a 59-10 victory over visiting Charleston Saturday.
After SU got on the board with a field goal, the Golden Eagles responded with a touchdown and field goal over the next nine minutes, taking a 10-3 lead with 11:46 to play before intermission. Taylor Franz had the touchdown reception from Maurice Leak and Puma Nuredini nailed the 37-yard attempt for the 10 points.
The Rams then scored 56 unanswered points, including 35 before the break. Kenny Williams’ 42-yard run tied the game and then Tommy Addison’s six-yard jaunt gave the home team the lead for good. Kenny Williams scored on a 16-yard run before DJ Scott returned a punt for a touchdown. John Frick registered a touchdown catch from Bobby Cooper just before half.
SU tacked on two third-quarter touchdowns before Kevin Williams’ run ended the scoring just 1:29 into the fourth.
Addison led all rushers with 114 yards and a touchdown. Kenny Williams had three scores and 88 yards for the Rams. Cooper completed 15-of-17 for 223 yards and two touchdowns.
For UC, Jordan Roberts rushed for 101 yards, including a long of 63. Leak completed 11-of-21 for 99 yards and a touchdown.
SU totaled 513 yards while the Golden Eagles had 226.
