Balanced Attack Finds Success for Women's Basketball

Box Score

CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Erika Rousculp (Worthington, OH) surged in the second half to restake her claim as the top post-player in the West Virginia Conference with a strong double-double of 17 points and 17 rebounds leading the University of Charleston women's basketball team to a 72-60 win over Bluefield State.

The win avenges the Golden Eagles (9-8, 8-5) first WVIAC loss of the season that came on the road (78-67) against the Lady Blues (4-14, 3-9) earlier this season.

UC opened the game shooting just 26 percent, yet managed to take a narrow three-point advantage into the locker room at halftime by getting to the foul line with a strong inside presence. The Golden Eagles managed to hold the lead with a 12-of-20 effort at the charity stripe, while Bluefield State was just 0-for-2.

After a lackluster opening stanza Rousculp and surging post-partner Tiffany Scott (Ottawa Lake, MI) erupted to combine for 26 points in the paint as the Golden Eagles pulled away down the stretch. The strong play close to the basket raised the Charleston shooting percentage in the second half to 47 percent (16-of-34) and allowed the home team to keep booking points from the foul line (9-of-12).

BSC outshot the University of Charleston for the contest, but the Golden Eagles tallied 21 points at the charity stripe to hang on to the lead for the duration of the second stanza.

NCAA Division II rebounding leader Rousculp led all players on the evening with her 12th double-double of the season, while Scott trailed just behind with 15 points and seven rebounds. Rookie Nichole Perry (Poseyville, IN) rounded out the double-digit scorers for Charleston with 11 points in the victory.

Leading scorer Lauren Davis (Cincinnati, OH) found success directing the UC offensive attack with a team-high seven assists, while also booking seven rebounds and six steals.

Charleston gets another chance at revenge with an upcoming road date against Shepherd on Thursday, Jan. 26. The Golden Eagles will tipoff against the Rams at 6:00 pm with live audio coverage available only here at www.ucgoldeneagles.com.
