Men's Soccer Strong in 1-0 Win Over No. 18 D&E

Box Score

CHARLESTON, W.Va. - The No. 6 ranked University of Charleston men's soccer team didn't back down from WVIAC championship newcomer and No. 18 ranked Davis & Elkins as they showed the form of a three-time defending champion in a 1-0 victory, Wednesday night.

UC (8-0-3) played the game they have all season long by controlling possession for much of the contest and finding many more looks at the goal than their opponents.

The Golden Eagles continued to attack the wings early when they finally found a gap in the Senator offense as Ceth Locklear (Magnolia, TX ) slipped a perfect pass through from the left side. Renan Ramos (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) collected the pass in front of three defenders and scored on a one-timer from 10 yards out for what would be the game-winning goal at the 37 minute mark.

For a quick span after the goal D&E became chippy in their play under the pressure of the deficit leading to the ejection of star player James Pucci in the 39th minute after he took a slide at three-time All-American Rob Vincent (Liverpool, England ) from behind. Without their main offensive player Davis & Elkins was unable to mount a threat after halftime with Charleston holding a 10-2 edge in shots after the break. For the evening the home squad held a 14-3 lead in shots, yet needed just the one goal to secure the win.

UC goalkeeper Sean Teepen (Cincinnati, OH ) gets credit for his fourth-consecutive shuteout and sixth of the season, but was only called upon to make one save in the victory.

The University of Charleston gets little reprieve from a tough schedule as they next welcome No. 14 Notre Dame (OH) to Schoenbaum Stadium on Sunday, Oct. 14 at 3:30 pm.
