Kelsey LaCroix (Flushing, MI) put the home team ahead just four minutes into the contest as she netted her first career goal as a Golden Eagle. LaCroix sprinted down the middle of the field past two defenders to run down a long pass from
Angela Petrizzo (Oakland Gardens, NY), which she allowed to take a big bounce off the new field turf before heading past Golden Bear keeper Bridget Leach.
UC (6-7-2) kept their attack going for the duration of the first half with
Brittany Akers (Roanoke, VA) scoring goal number two at the 29:51 mark. Akers placed a perfect one-hop header into the net off a cross by
Danielle Siegrist (Wexford, PA) who placed the ball at nearly point-blank range from the far side of the goal.
Less than ten minutes later
Lauren Haven (Nassau, Bahamas) gave the University of Charleston plenty of breathing space on the scoreboard when she powered past defenders straight at the goal. Haven gave the ball a powerful touch that easily cleared the keeper to book her second career goal.
In the second half behind an entire line change by the Golden Eagles the offensive pressure continued. The fourth goal came near the end of the contest when
Raquel Hill-Spranger (Tampa, FL) benefited from a scrum in front of the net. Two defenders and the goalkeeper attacked the ball being driven by Hill-Spranger and Haven causing a massive collision five yards from the net. Hill-Spranger emerged with the ball for the easy tap in for the final points of the afternoon.
