CHARLESTON, W.Va. - The University of Charleston women's soccer team got on the board first, but couldn't hold off a late Shepherd run as the visitors slipped away 2-0, Wednesday afternoon at the Fields at Trace Fork.
Kelsey LaCroix (Flushing, MI) found the back of the net off the crossbar in the 17th minute as she controlled a feed from
Renee Boudreau (Livonia, MI) from point blank range behind the SU defense.
After the UC goal the home team kept the pressure on Shepherd by controlling the tempo of the contest to outshoot the Rams 7-2 headed into halftime with the narrow advantage.
Shepherd had little success against the Golden Eagles early in the second half, but stayed patient with their attempts until they managed to put together solid runs deep into Charleston territory. SU took charge with back-to-back goals on reserve goalkeeper
Megan Bauman (Livonia, MI) to get a late edge on the contest.
The University of Charleston got multiple looks at the goal late in an effort to equalize the game, but were unable to find net as SU keeper Tessa Jones booked 10 saves.
Charleston hits the road for its next WVIAC contest on Saturday, Oct. 20 when the team travels to Ohio Valley for an 11:00 am contest.
