Women's Tennis Advances with Win Over Fairmont State



CHARLESTON, W. Va. - The University of Charleston women's tennis squad earned a 5-0 victory over Fairmont State Friday afternoon, earning a spot in the WVIAC semifinals.

In doubles action, top-seeded Laura Smith (Townsville, Australia) and Kelsey Hensley (Ashland, KY) notched an 8-3 doubles win. Ana Maria Pena (Bogota, Columbia) and Courtney Pierron (Wheelersburg, OH) bested their opposition by an 8-5 count at the No. 2 position. Mallika Mali (Brisbane, Australia) and Taylor Todd (Columbus, OH) won the No. 3 match by an 8-0 tally.

Leading 3-0, Todd pulled the Golden Eagles to within one point of the win by downing her opponent 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 5 singles slot, while Pierron won the No. 6 singles match 6-0, 6-0 to seal the victory.

The Golden Eagles play West Liberty tomorrow at 1 p.m. for a spot in the WVIAC Championship.
