MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - A goal with just under six minutes remaining in regulation allowed host Millersville to foce a tie against the red-hot University of Charleston women's soccer team, Friday evening.
UC (5-5-2) sustained a tough offensive attack by the Mauraders (3-5-3) in the opening 45 minutes of play as the home squad outshot the Golden Eagles 12-1, but five first half saves by goalkeeper
Courtney Budd (Egg Harbor, NJ) kept the scoreboard blank.
In the second half, Charleston turned the tide on Millersville by finding 11 shots one of which was a blast to the back of the net by
Holly Bigg (Limehouse, Canada) in the 75th minute that gave the visitors a 1-0 advantage. Bigg found her chance at the net after corralling a bounding ball in front of the net after a Golden Eagle corner kick.
The only slip for the University of Charleston came in the 84th minute when MU used a one-timer to slip on to the scoreboard and send the teams to two extra periods. Charleston held the 3-0 advantage through the extra frames, but couldn't get the ball between the posts to result in the deadlock after 110 minutes of play.
Budd concluded the day with a solid eight save performance.
Charleston now takes their seven game unbeaten streak to Cleveland, OH for a matchup against Ursuline on Sunday, Oct. 7 at 2:00 pm.
