Women's Tennis Moves to 6-0 on Season

Kelsey Hensley

ELKINS, W.Va. - The University of Charleston women's tennis squad was never threatened to stay perfect at 6-0 on the season with a 9-0 victory at WVIAC foe Davis & Elkins, Friday evening.

Ana Maria Pena (Bogota, Columbia) and Courtney Pierron (Wheelersburg, OH) got the contest started with an 8-0 sweep of the number two doubles and UC never looked back. Mallika Mali (Brisbane, Australia) and Taylor Todd (Columbus, OH) combined to take down the No. 3 doubles 8-4, while Laura Smith (Townsville, Australia) and Kelsey Hensley (Ashland, KY) won 8-6 in the No. 1 doubles contest.

Todd put the largest victory together in singles play with a 6-0, 6-1 decision in the No. 5 singles position. Mali grabbed the No. 4 singles victory as her opponent bowed out due to injury, while the rest of the team kept the Senators off the board with a clear script of victories.

UC stays in the middle of the state overnight as they face WV Wesleyan on Saturday, Oct. 6 at 10:00 am.
