Three Second Half Goals Sink Women's Soccer

Box Score

PEPPER PIKE, Ohio - A goal with under three minutes remaining in regulation broke a 2-2 deadlock and allowed Ursuline to slip away with the victory over the University of Charleston women's soccer team.

Courtney Budd (Egg Harbor, NJ) booked four saves in the opening half to keep the Arrows off the scoreboard as the home squad outshot Charleston 6-3. Despite not seeing as many looks at the goal the University of Charleston was the first to strike the back of the net when Elyse Surbaugh (Virginia Beach, VA) recorded her fourth goal of the year off a pass from Kelsey LaCroix (Flushing, MI) with under two minutes before halftime.

After the break Ursuline came out looking to defend their home field with back-to-back quick strike goals in the 58th and 60th minutes. UC kept picking at the Arrow defense as their increased pressure on offense allowed the visitors to find 10 shots in the second stanza with the game tying goal coming from Brittany Loveland (Cheswick, PA) at 70:14.

Ursuline did not go away quietly though as the home team continued to push the Golden Eagles to eventually find a hole in the UC defense which they would exploit for a look that Taylor Maciver placed past backup keeper Jennifer Poppe (Barrie, Canada) to set the final score at 3-2.

The Univesity of Charleston returns home for a 3:00 pm contest against WVIAC opponent Alderson-Broaddus on Thursday, Oct. 11.
