INSTITUTE, W.Va. - WV State shot 50 percent across the board as they stayed a step ahead of the University of Charleston women's basketball team as the Golden Eagles fell 83-74 in the regular season finale, Saturday evening.
The Yellow Jackets (11-15, 8-14) hit 5-of-9 attempts from behind the arc, while Charleston (12-14, 11-11) went just 1-of-7 in trying to keep pace. The home squad torched the nets for 17-for-34 overall shooting in the opening stanza to pull out to an 11-point (45-34) advantage headed into the locker room.
UC stepped up the defensive pressure in the second half to crawl back in the game and get within six points with four minutes left to play. The Golden Eagles benefited from 19 points off WV State turnovers, but were unable to close the gap completely as the Yellow Jackets took care of the ball down the stretch to preserve the victory.

Erika Rousculp (Worthington, OH) continued to be dominant on the boards for UC as she led the way offensively with 15 points and 14 rebounds, while teammate
Lauren Davis (Cincinnati, OH) also booked a 15-point effort. Floor general
Chrissy Keir (Savreville, NJ) rounded out the double-digit scorers for Charleston with 10 points, two assists and two steals.
UC had nine players reach the scorebook, but were unable to completely counter five double-digit scorers of WVSU.
The University of Charleston finishes the regular season in 10th place overall in the West Virginia Conference standings. UC now hits the road for the opening round of the conference tournament with a 7:00 pm matchup against No. 7 seed Pitt-Johnstown.
