Women's Rowing Has Four CRCA National Scholar-Athletes

CHARLESTON, W.Va. - The regionally ranked University of Charleston rowing team landed four student-athletes among the College Rowing Coaches Association National Scholar-Athletes award winners, Wednesday evening.

Debbie Amos (Parkersburgh, WV), Kelsey Ash (Fairmont, WV), Chelsea Mellen (Thompson, CT) and Brittany Price (Chevy Chase, MD) all earned Scholar-Athlete recognition from the CRCA. In order to be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be in at least her second year of eligibility and maintained a 3.5 or higher cumulative GPA throughout her career.

UC had the second-most scholar-athlete award winners behind Humbolt State and Rollins who each had five selections. The Golden Eagles were one of just nine NCAA Division II teams whose athletes were featured as the top student-athletes by the CRCA.

Amos adds the award to her impressive resume as her 4.0 GPA has earned her mention as a USTFCCCA Academic All-American last fall for her third place finish at the WVIAC Cross Country Championships, while she has also been named a Capital One Academic All-District selection and is a top Academic All-American candidate for her track and field performances to go along with rowing this spring.
