Late Goal Lifts Women's Soccer to 2-1 Win

Box Score

GREENSBURG, Pa. - Brittany Loveland (Cheswick, PA) got her second goal of the season just in time to lift the University of Charleston women's soccer squad to a 2-1 victory over WVIAC opponent Seton Hill, Saturday afternoon.

Seton Hill (3-3) opened the afternoon's scoring with the only mark of the first half with the teams playing nearly even as they each managed six shots before break.

Holly Bigg (Limehouse, Canada) got her first offensive stat of the young season just two minutes into the second half to deadlock the contest at 1-1. The teams went back to where they left off in the first half after the goal to battle back and forth with neither squad controlling possession for any chunk of time.

Just as it seemed the game was destined for an extra period or two Loveland delivered a much needed spark for her team. She took a well placed pass from senior Elyse Surbaugh (Virginia Beach, VA) and buried it past SHU keeper Lauren Peretich in the 88th minutes for the win.

Jennifer Poppe (Barrie, Canada) got the start in goal and put UC in the win column with eight saves on the day.
