CHARLESTON, W.Va. -
Elyse Surbaugh (Virginia Beach, VA) book a goal and an assist to help the University of Charleston women's soccer squad extend their unbeaten streak to five-consecutive games as the Golden Eagles dropped Cedarville 2-0, Saturday evening.
Charleston opened the game controlling possession, which continued for much of the contest yet it would be Cedarville who held the shot advantage in the contest as the Golden Eagles found a tough road in breaking a defensive backfield for the Yellow Jackets that often contained 9-10 players.
Surbaugh fought through the pesky CU defense for the go-ahead score just 35 minutes into the game as she drilled a Renee Boudreau pass past a diving Alysia Bennett, the Yellow Jacket goalkeeper. The Surbaugh score was booked on the first shot of the evening for UC.
Seven minutes later potent scorer
Holly Bigg (Limehouse, Canada) slipped through the middle of the Cedarville defense and powered the ball in between the posts for the final tally of the night. Bigg's header came off a perfectly placed corner kick from Surbaugh on what was the third shot of the contest.
The first half goals were all the University of Charleston needed despite being outshot 12-8 as
Courtney Budd (Egg Harbor, NJ) sealed the shutout with eight saves.
Charleston (4-5-1) now moves on to a WVIAC matchup on the road at Pitt-Johnstown on Tuesday, Oct. 2 at 2:00 pm.
