CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Despite winning the edge in shots the University of Charleston women's soccer squad was unable to find the back of the net in a 4-0 defeat at the hands of WVIAC opponent Davis & Elkins, Wednesday afternoon.
The Golden Eagles (0-3) kept the offensive pressure on Senator All-WVIAC goalkeeper Ashely Winkelspecht all day, but she stepped up to the challenge for nine saves which also carried over to reserve keeper Taylor Fealy who grabbed three tough saves in her limited action.
Three of the Senator goals came from defensive miscues by Charleston with two coming from rebounded saves off the hands of UC netminder
Courtney Budd (Egg Harbor, NJ).
UC held a 19-12 advantage in shots with 12 coming on goal but it was the D&E defense that took the victory in the contest as they continually rebuked the offensive prowess of the University of Charleston.
Holly Bigg made the most of her limited action on the attack with six shots. Bigg had the best look on goal in the waning minutes but was turned back by Fealy who came out of goal to make the save.
After a few days to recover Charleston hits the road for an Atlantic Regional matchup against Slippery Rock on Saturday, Sept. 8 scheduled for a 1:00 pm start.
