PHILIPPI, W. Va. -- Charleston's Chelsea Brumby (Chandler, AZ) sank a last second trey from near half court to send the Golden Eagles past the Alderson-Broaddus women's basketball team 64-61 Monday at Rex Pyles Arena.
Despite the fact that A-B shot 48 percent from the field in the loss, its 23 turnovers allowed Charleston opportunities to overcome a 13-point deficit late in the contest and capture the win.
Charleston (10-7, 7-6 WVIAC) overcame injury and illness to steal a victory from the Battlers using their supposedly lackluster defense to fight their way back into the game and ultimately hit the shot at the buzzer to seal AB's fate. Jessi Cowden (Tomball, TX) sat out due to illness and Ashley Milligan (Canal Winchester, OH) suffered a season-ending injury over the weekend making the roster thin for tonight's contest.
Brumby tied her career-high with 17 points and was 3-for-10 from long distance. LeAnne Ross (Marietta, OH) chipped in 15 points for the Golden Eagles.
The Golden Eagles return to action Thursday as they travel to face Fairmont State.
