Brumby's Perfect 1st Half Paces UC Over Concord

Box Score Box Score

Athens, WV
- Chelsea Brumby (Chandler, AZ) scorched the nets in the first half in a win on the road against Concord as the University of Charleston goes to .500 in WVIAC play.

For much of the first half Concord and UC traded baskets with neither team building more than a 4 point lead until Brumby started getting hot from behind the arc starting at the 13 minute mark. She went on to hit all six of her attempts from the floor including 5 3-pointers in the first 20 minutes of action and helping UC build a 7 point cushion as they went into halftime with the score of 42-35.  In the first half alone the UC bench was able to outscore Concord's bench 23-7, thus making the difference in the scoreboard as they went to the break.

Concord came out of the locker room at halftime and made a few defensive adjustments, putting a taller player on Brumby making it hard for her to get off her shot.  Brumby wasn't able to get another shot off in the second half, but that allowed open opportunities for her teammates in the next 20 minutes. UC had four players in double figures for the contest and used a strong shooting and rebounding night from LeAnne Ross (Marietta, OH) who finished with 14 points and 9 rebounds, while also dishing out 4 assists.

Concord was able to close the gap to 2 points on the back of Andrea Bertrand who had a game high 30 points and 11 rebounds.  However, Concord could never retake the lead as the University of Charleston used a 11 to 1 run in the last 4 minutes to take the victory over the Mountain Lions 81 - 69.

For the game UC shot 50% from the field including hitting 14 3 pointers.  It was nearly even on the glass as UC outrebounded Concord by just 2.

The Golden Eagles will have a quick turnaround as they travel to Buckhannon on Saturday, January 5th  to take on West Virginia Wesleyan.
