Perry's Career High 30 Points Isn't Enough as UC Falls to WVWC

Box Score BOX SCORE

Buckhannon, WV -
A career high 30 points from Nichole Perry (Poseyville, IN) wasn't enough to get the victory over the home Bobcats as the University of Charleston dropped a conference game by 79-68.

UC got off to a hot start from the early shooting by Perry as the Golden Eagles built an early 9-0 advantage just 3 minutes into the first half.  The Bobcats responded with a 9-2 run of their own to quickly get back into the game. UC then put together a good run to extend the lead to 10 points with 9 minutes remaining behind shooting from Perry and Jessi Cowden (Tomball, TX).  After a 30 second timeout taken by the Bobcats they were able to even the game up at 23-23 with 6 minutes to go.  The remainder of the half was back and forth with multiple lead changes and ties with the half ending in a tie at 35-35.

UC got strong efforts from Perry (17 1st half points) and Cowden (10 1st half points) to lead the Golden Eagles into the locker room.  Charleston was able to force 14 first half turnovers but was beaten badly on the glass being outrebounded 25-16.

Wesleyan came out of halftime and built a big lead in the first 6 minutes of action in the second half outscoring the Golden Eagles 20-4 for a 16 point cushion. Charleston continued to dial up the defensive pressure in the second half forcing 18 more Bobcat turnovers which allowed UC to cut the deficit to 5 points after a 3-pointer by Perry with 3:24 remaining to be played.  UC never got any closer as Wesleyan was able to convert their free throws down the stretch to preserve an 11 point victory for the Bobcats, 79-68.

Perry led the Golden Eagles with 30 points behind 10-14 shooting from field, but as a team UC only shot 38% from the field including going just 8-29 from 3 point land.  Charleston was able to force 32 Bobcat turnovers but was beaten on the glass 49-24, including allowing 18 offensive rebounds that lead to 16 second chance points.

UC will return to action on Thursday as they travel to Bluefield State College for their 3rd straight road conference contest.
