Box Score CHARLESTON, W.Va. - It wasn't the way Todd Diuguid envisioned the match starting falling behind in the early stages, but the ladies would respond after halftime to score three goals on the way to a 3-1 win over the Cardinals from Wheeling Jesuit University.
Once again the Golden Eagles found themselves down early after allowing a goal at the three minute mark of the first half to trail 1-0. UC controlled much of the first half and created good scoring opportunities but couldn't find a way past the Cardinal keeper and took a 1-0 deficit into halftime.
Coach Diuguid made an impactful lineup change that payed dividends in the early stages of the second half when substitute Lauren Haven would get on the end of a Kim D'Angelo pass and slip a shot past the Cardinal keeper eight minutes in to even the score at 1-1. That goal opened the floodgates for UC who went on to score two more goals in the half, one by Bella Jaffin after gathering a rebound off a shot off of the post and then D'Angelo would fire a shot into traffic that deflected off a Jesuit defender and wrongfotted the keeper.Â
At the end of 90 minutes Charelston would earn a 3-1 victory and put themselves into a great position to advance to the MEC Championship in a few weeks.
