Mistakes and Missed Opportunities Doom Women’s Soccer

CHARLESTON, W.Va. - The University of Charleston committed an early mistake that opened up the door on a 3-1 defeat of the Golden Eagles Tuesday at Trace Fork Fields,

Notre Dame capitalized off of a missed play by the Golden Eagles goalkeeper to take the lead in just the 2nd minute of play. In the 20th minute UC was able to respond with a rocket by Kimberly D'Angelo to the upper left corner to even the match at 1-1.

UC dominated possession throughout the half but another mistake gave the Falcons a score. Two Golden Eagle defenders collided while attempting to clear a ball fell and Notre Dame capitalized to make the score 2-1. In the first half Notre Dame held a 6-4 shot advantage.

In the second half, the Falcons quickly scored again on Ockunzzi's second goal of the afternoon to make the score 3-1. Charleston was able to attempt seven more shots on goal, but five saves by the Falcons prevented any scoring. UC held an 8-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Charleston falls to 4-6-1 on the season and 2-5-1 in Mountain East Conference play.  UC will make their way to Shepherd University this Saturday to take on the Rams for a 1pm match.  Notre Dame improves to 10-0 on the season and 8-0 in the MEC.
