Box Score West Liberty, WV - The women from West Liberty again proved to be too much for the Golden Eagles as Charleston suffers its second consecutive loss, 88-64.
UC traveled to West Liberty trying to avenge a 19-point loss from earlier in the season, but potential WVIAC Player of the Year candidate Hillary Southworth made sure the Golden Eagles didn't leave with an upset victory as she poured in 34 points and grabbed seven rebounds in the Hilltopper win. Charleston would never lead in the contest and trailed by as many as 26 points at times in the second half before finding themselves at the end of a 24-point loss.
Southworth came into the contest against UC as the nation's second leading scorer in Division II averaging just over 23 points per game. She got that and more as the Hilltoppers improved to 16-6 on the season and 14-4 in WVIAC play, trailing only Glenville State in the conference rankings. With the loss Charleston falls to 12-10 on the season and sits at 9-9 in conference putting them in the 10th spot going into a very important home matchup Thursday against Bluefield State who is just ahead of UC in the rankings.
Charleston was led by
Jessi Cowden (Tomball, TX) who pitched in 19 points and seven rebounds in defeat. UC will host the contest against Bluefield State or it can be seen on ucgoldeneagles.com with tip set for 5:30 pm.
