Box Score Charleston, WV – Charleston women can’t keep pace with Glenville as they fall to the Pioneers 80-66 at the Eddie King Gym.
Charleston (13-11, 10-10 WVIAC) was able to match #16 Glenville State (24-2, 19-1 WVIAC) for the first 10 minutes of the first half, keeping the game within single digits. The next 10 minutes was a different story with UC committing turnovers and unable to hit on any shots. The Pioneers took advantage of the Golden Eagle mistakes and quickly turned a close game into a runaway, holding a 22-point edge over UC at halftime, 53-31.
Kenyona Simmons proved to be too much for Charleston to handle as she would lead all scorers with 18 points going into break. The Golden Eagles were led by Keir who contributed nine points and two assists.
Unfortunately for the Golden Eagles, the second half proved to be much of the same as UC could never cut deep into the Pioneer lead, coming only as close as 13 points with just over a minute remaining in the game. Glenville State would go on for a 14-point victory over Charleston, 80-66.
UC would get 13 points each from Perry and Cowden with Jessi adding in 13 rebounds in a double-double effort. The Pioneers were paced by Ginny Mills (23 points) and Simmons (25 points).
The Golden Eagles will hit the road for their next contest on Thursday as they travel north to Wheeling Jesuit.
