Box Score Charleston, WV – The University of Charleston’s explosive offense was too much for Concord University as the women cruise to a 20-point victory, 92-72, Thursday night at Eddie King Gym.
In a highly contested first-half where there were five ties and eight lead changes, Charleston (12-8, 9-7 WVIAC) came out of the intermission with aggressive defense forcing Concord (6-16, 5-11 WVIAC) into turnovers on their first three possessions. UC converted on those mistakes pushing a seven point lead at the break out to 16 just two minutes into the second half.
The Mountain Lions would never really threaten UC for the remainder of the half with Charleston maintaining a double-digit cushion throughout. The Golden Eagles were able to keep Concord at a distance due to efficient shooting from the field and defensive pressure. For the contest Charleston shot 52% including hitting on 14 of 29 attempts from behind the 3-point line. UC was also able to pressure Concord into 25 turnovers coming up with 12 steals.
Charleston was led in scoring by
Chrissy Keir (Savreville, NJ) who scored 19 points on near perfect shooting going six for seven from the floor. UC also got solid contributions from
LeAnne Ross (Marietta, OH) and
Jessi Cowden (Tomball, TX) who each finished with 13 points apiece. Concord got a good a game from Amanda Smith who finished with 18 points.
UC will return to action Saturday as they host University of Pitt-Johnstown at 4 pm.
