CHARLESTON, W.Va. - In an early season matchup between two top-end MEC Women's Tennis programs, the Hilltoppers would leave Charleston with an impressive 7-2 win over the Golden Eagles.
Charleston would take one of the three doubles pairings, with
Mallika Mali and
Marieve Edwards pulling out a hard fought 8-5 win to give the Golden Eagles a glimmer of hope heading into singles. However, the Hilltoppers were relentless in singles action taking five of the six singles matches, with Mali coming away with the only win for UC.Â
The Golden Eagles were dealing with an injury to sophomore
Taylor Todd who typically plays at the #2 spot. The ladies were forced to move up a spot in the lineup and this time around West Liberty was able to take advantage of the unfortunate injury.Â
Today marked the first day of three consecutive days of matches for the Golden Eagles as Charleston hits the road tomorrow for a match against Concord followed by a Sunday match againts the Cavaliers from UVa-Wise.
