Box Score Urbana, Ohio - First half turnovers and poor shooting plagued University of Charleston Saturday afternoon, falling 75-61 to the Urbana University Blue Knights at the Grimes Center.
UC shot a dismal 28% the first 20 minutes and committed 12 of their 18 turnovers to allow Urbana to carry an 11-point lead into the break, 36-25. Charleston's 18 turnovers lead to 17 Blue Knight points.Â
The Golden Eagles fought their way back into the game to find themselves down only three, 49-52, after a Nichole Perry jumper with 9:38 remaining in the contest. Just three minutes later Charleston was once again trailing by double digits and the deficit grew to as many as 16 points on a layup by Blue Knight DeVonyea Johnson with 2:27 to go.
UC never got the deficit down to single digits as Urbana defended their homecourt with a 14-point win over the visiting Golden Eagles.
Charleston got 13 points from Chyress Lockhart while KJ Johnson came off of the Golden Eagle bench for a double-double, 11 points and 11 rebounds. Urbana was led by senior point guard DeVonyea Johnson who scored a game-high 20 points and pulled down seven boards.
The loss drops the Golden Eagles to 8-4 overall and .500 in the MEC at 4-4. Charleston stays on the road to take on Notre Dame College Falcons Monday evening in a game that was originally scheduled to be played at home but due to the current water crisis in Charleston has been moved. Tipoff is set for 5:30.
