#15 Pioneers Outlast Golden Eagles in MEC Battle

Box Score Charleston, W.Va. –  Charleston played the #15 ranked Glenville State Pioneers close for 30 minutes before dropping the contest 90-78 Monday evening at the Eddie King Gymnasium.

UC was paced by leading scorer Chyress Lockhart who accounted for 17 points, five rebounds and five assists.  Tianni Kelly pitched in 16 points and nine boards while junior guard LeAnne Ross scored 13 and pulled down eight rebounds.

Glenville was led by senior guard Ashleigh Fosset's 23 points on 10-for-16 shooting but also got double-digits from four other Pioneers including 14 from Ginny Mills.

The Golden Eagles found themselves down only seven points, 33-40, after 20 minutes of feverish play mostly due to second chance points, outscoring the Pioneers by eight points in the category. UC was led by DJ Reddix's eight points off of the Charleston bench while Glenville got 12 points from Ashleigh Fossett to lead their first half scoring attack.

UC whittled the Pioneer lead down to two on a few occasions in the second half but the continuous pressure forced a tired UC into unforced errors that led to easy Glenville baskets and a 90-78 win over the Golden Eagles.   Glenville scored 25 points off 14 UC turnovers which proved to be the difference in the game.

Charleston goes to 7-3 for 2013-14 season and 3-3 in Mountain East Conference play.  Glenville improves to 11-1 and a perfect 6-0 in the MEC.
