Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

#1 Charleston Finishes Regular Season Unbeaten With 5-1 Victory Over Concord

ATHENS, W.Va. - The #1 ranked team in the nation, University of Charleston Men's Soccer, beat Concord University 5-1 in their last game of the regular season, finishing unbeaten at 16-0-1.

After making history earlier in the week by becoming the first athletic program in University history to be ranked #1 in the country, Charleston looked to finish off their regular season on a high. Lewis Osborne (Wakefield, England) found the back of the net first in just the 18th minute off a cross from Freshman Will Roberts (Denbigh, Wales). The Golden Eagles pushed to find the second but came up just short on several occasions. The half finished at 1-0.

The second half opened up for UC as captain Conor Branson (Pontefract, England) placed a worldly free-kick, top-corner, from over 35-yards out putting UC up 2-0.  Roberts then put his mark on the scoring in the match scoring in the 72nd minute and a penalty in the 79th minute making it 4-0 in Charleston's favor. Just a minute later Roberts and Leighton Richards (Glen Allen, VA) combined for a double-assist on a brilliant build up down the right side that leading goal scorer Augusto Maciel (Sao Paulo, Brazil) would get on the end of calmly beating Concord's goalkeeper Mitchell Thompson. With Concord recording only one shot they found the back of the net off of a deflected shot making the final score 5-1. Fabian Veit (Dielheim, Germany) earned the win in net for UC with just one save.

The Golden Eagles finish the regular season 16-0-1 and 11-0-1 in the Mountain East Conference. Charleston's next match will be the semi-final of the MEC Thursday, November 6 at 7pm at Marshall University.
