Institute, W.Va. - After trailing for much of the first half, Charleston battled back to earn an eight point victory, 72-64, over Seton Hill University Saturday afternoon in the second day of the MEC/PSAC Conference Challenge hosted by West Virginia State University.
The Golden Eagles got double figure scoring from four of its five starters, led by Kayla Dozier's 19 points and four assists. LeAnne Ross rebounded from her shooting woes on the first day to score 14 points and go 4-for-7 from behind the arc. Monet Saunders added a double-double, going for 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Lindsey Mifsud came off the bench to lead the Griffins with 16 points.
Charleston's largest lead of the game was 14 points at about the 12 minute mark of the second half only to see that lead erased just five minutes later when Seton Hill knotted the game at 48-48. UC took the lead back on the next possession and held off the Griffins down the stretch to come away unbeaten in the conference challenge.
UC opens Mountain East play next Saturday in West Liberty, W.Va. to take on the nationally ranked Hilltoppers from West Liberty University. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m.
