BUCKHANNON, W.Va. -- Collette Biondi's first half goal lifted West Virginia Wesleyan past Charleston, 1-0, in the Mountain East Conference Tournament semifinals.
The Bobcats (12-3-2) will look to defend their 2013 MEC Tournament title on Sunday against Notre Dame. WVWC defeated Notre Dame once and drew the Falcons in a second meeting.Â
Charleston controlled the action early on, but Biondi intercepted a back pass and then slipped it past the keeper in the 33rd minute to put WVWC up 1-0. The Bobcats absorbed pressure late, including a free kick from Holly Bigg with under a minute left that was saved by Lauren Duncan. Duncan finished the game with three saves to preserve the shutout.
Prior to kickoff the Mountain East Conference awarded Holly Bigg her All-MEC First Team award, her third consecutive year with that honor.
Charleston finishes the season at 10-7-1 and third overall in the Mountain East Conference.
