Charleston, W.Va.. – The conditions won't be perfect; temperatures will be in the mid-40s with rain and wind. But University of Charleston's number one ranked men's soccer team is looking forward to the chance to win the school's first national championship.Â
The Golden Eagles continue on in their quest for No. 1 on Thursday, December 4, at 11 a.m. when they battle Colorado Mesa on the campus of Bellarmine University in Louisville, Ky. Fans will have the opportunity to watch the match live at ucgoldeneagles.com or NCAA.com and receive in-game updates by following @uc_goldeneagles on Twitter and Instagram.
Four teams, all-ranked within the top-11 in the nation, remain in competition for the NCAA Division II National Championship: No. 1 Charleston (W. Va.), third-ranked Lynn, fifth-ranked Quincy and No. 11 Colorado Mesa.
This will be the first-ever meeting between the Maroon & Gold and the Mavericks. Colorado Mesa has gone 18-3-1 overall, defeating Midwestern State(1-0) in the opening round, St. Edwards (2-1) in the third round before scoring a late second-half goal to top Cal State - Los Angeles, 1-0, in the national quarterfinals.Â
Defense has been the key all season long for the Mavericks. They rank fifth in the country in save percentage (.854) and shutout percentage (.590). They rank eighth in NCAA II in team goals against average, allowing 0.62 goals per 90 minutes.
