CHARLESTON, W.Va. - The University of Charleston Women's Tennis team picked up their first win of  2014 Sunday afternoon defeating Bluefield State College 8-1 at the Charleston Tennis Club.
Charleston held a 2-1 lead after three doubles matches before sweeping all six singles matches on their way to the 8-1 win.  Bluefield State grabbed their only win of the day at No. 2 doubles as Laura Hernandez and Ertel Balada knocked off Charleston's tandem of Marieve Edwards and Taylor Todd by a score of 9-7.
Ana Pena started the singles matches off strong for UC, defeating Bluefield's Isabella Cubillos 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles.  Jackie Bakos, Taylor Todd, and Mallika Mali all knotched straight set wins at the No. 4, 5 and 6 spots.
Kelsey Hensley and Marieve Edwards fought off their opponents in super tiebreakers to secure the singles sweep and gave the Golden Eagles an 8-1 match win.
Charleston returns to play on Saturday, March 1 at 1PM as they host Centre College.
